The Rocky Mount Belk, which closed in March amid the increasing spread of the coronavirus, is set to reopen at noon on Monday along with other Belk North Carolina stores in the Charlotte-based department store chain.
The local Belk is one of the main stores at the Golden East Crossing mall off North Wesleyan Boulevard in the highly commercial and retail northwestern part of the city.
The action by Belk in the Tar Heel State comes after Gov. Roy Cooper on Tuesday signed an order, effective at 5 p.m. today, that is going to allow retail businesses previously considered to be nonessential to be allowed to reopen, provided they limit operations to 50 percent capacity and require social distancing.
Belk stores have already reopened in Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee and Belk stores are going to be reopening today in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi and Texas.
金殿国际棋牌-首页 officials said while Belk stores have been open again or are soon going to be reopen for business, the company is following safety procedures as recommended by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state and local health authorities.
Additionally, company officials said while Belk stores have been open again or are soon going to reopen, restrictive guidelines have been put into place, including limiting the number of shoppers inside at one time to ensure social distancing standards are observed.
The restrictive guidelines include reopened and soon-to-be-reopened stores being limited to business hours from noon to 6 p.m.
And fitting rooms are going to remain closed.
The local Belk, like many other stores in the chain, is going to offer free curbside pickup so shoppers can do business with limited contact.
The way the system is going to work is a customer can place an order via or via a Belk app on a cell phone and can pick up that order between noon and 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and between 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Sundays.
The service is going to be free and available for same-day pickup of items within two hours on orders placed by 1 p.m.
The service for the local Belk is going to be at the store entrance nearest the local Applebee's Neighborhood Bar and Grill.
The Telegram in late March reported shoppers arriving at Golden East Crossing were going to find stores either closed or operating on reduced hours due to the coronavirus.
A reporter walked throughout the mall and found stores having closed until further notice, including Belk.
Eventually, Golden East officials closed the inside of the mall in support of Cooper issuing an order limiting the operations of businesses and limiting travel.
According to news reports, Belk, which operates in 16 states and has 291 stores, closed all stores in the chain and furloughed employees and cut senior staff pay by 50 percent.
On Wednesday, Golden East officials said the inner part of the mall is going to reopen at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The mall's hours are going to be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
Mall management said people must wear protective face masks while in the mall and must remain six feet apart from each other.
Mall management also said groups of larger than 10 people are not going to be allowed onto the mall property and advised those who begin to exhibit flu-like symptoms to return to their 金殿国际棋牌-首页s.
The local Belk opened at the then-new mall in 1986 after having long been located along Southwest Main Street downtown.
